A Sydney Dwelling, Redesigned For Eating Amongst The Treetops

A sequence of unsympathetic renovations had left this household dwelling in Woollahra, Sydney, in a confused state. The successive ‘mish mash’ of kinds had stripped the house of lots of its authentic options, leaving the pokey residing and kitchen areas with restricted pure mild and – most frustratingly – hadn’t taken benefit of the sweeping views over the park.

When Caitlin Parker-Brown, director of inside design agency Parker Studio, was introduced on to the mission, she was tasked with creating a brand new floor flooring structure inside the dwelling’s new footprint, together with a brand new rear extension designed by Chris Kokkinis of Ergo Structure.

The brand new addition to the Victorian-style dwelling now embraces the setting it’s in, with a powerful deal with nature and the encompassing treescape, together with a dreamy muted color palette.

‘We didn’t wish to over design or over adorn the area because it has such a placing view,’ explains Caitlin. ‘It wasn’t obligatory to remove from that.’

So, slightly than design an inward-focussed area, she switched the main target to the encompassing treetops, and created an area that might act as a backdrop to the leafy cover past.

‘It’s all within the color palette and supplies,’ she says. Pure oak floorboards and crisp white partitions created a recent and chic design base, upon which textural and delicate paint and materials finishes for the kitchen joinery and benchtop had been overlaid.

The kitchen island, which sweeps round in an arc at one finish is a micro-cement end, whereas the kitchen joinery is a white-washed timber veneer with a really delicate wooden grain. ‘This provides a beautiful hand-finished feel and appear, which was in step with our imaginative and prescient to create an inside that’s sympathetic to the panorama,’ Caitlin says. ‘We used muted colors, bushy pinks and blues all through the areas to stability out the pure backdrop.’

Within the authentic a part of the home, Caitlin labored on retaining and reinstating heritage character.  Nowhere is that this extra apparent than the powder room and mudroom – Caitlin’s favorite areas within the dwelling. ‘We went wild with color and sample and the tip end result actually paid off,’ she says. ‘It’s such a wealthy and alluring area to be in.’

The tumbled checkerboard marble flooring tiles are a spotlight in these rooms; ‘It provides the entry of the home that outdated world attraction it as soon as had earlier than you step into the sunshine and ethereal modern extension behind the home,’ Caitlin explains. ‘It’s a enjoyable distinction.’
